I really like my boy Patrick Bateman, but unfortunately his card was the worst one.

I'm doing some casual research on fonts for critical-duty use in industry. I use Comic Sans as a control, and it keeps beating the other fonts in blur and distortion tests, it's up there with Atkinson Hyperlegible and Intel One Mono. Even when Arial is totally destroyed, Comic Sans can still be read. And the best thing is every Windows computer has it pre-installed, so if you need a font that's all function and zero form for an important use case where character recognition is vital, Comic Sans is a better choice than Arial.

This is amazing work. Fonts like this help even the people without vision impairment. For example Lexend font was so useful to me after I discovered that it helps me to read so much faster.

I believe designers will put their heads in the sand for as long as they can. Every major technological change brought a major drop in salaries, number of jobs and professional status for graphic designers. Remember when photocomposition replaced movable type? Remember when QuarkXPress and Adobe software replaced photocomposition? Image banks versus photographers and illustrators? I am watching this video 1 year after it was uploaded to this channel. In the meantime generative AI made huge progress. There is no reason for me to believe these leaps in capacity will not exponentially continue. As an art director, AI has allowed me to bring back into my own pockets: redaction work, translations, illustrations and some photography work (that I would have paid image banks for). There are a few functions that will require human designers (the truly strategic thinking and the really artistic and innovative work) but most of graphic design applications are mundane banalities. All that is needed is for AI to be able to do page layouts and most of the employee jobs are done for.

It's funny to imagine if instead of being intentional and methodical in his font choices, he's actually like "I love Futura! Oh wait, everyone thinks it's cliché now and now I feel self-conscious. Maybe Helvetica? Everyone loves Helvetica... oh wait now everyone thinks that's cliché and overused! What should I do?!" 😂

This is what I love about typography, both Linus and others like Matthew Butterick stress that typography is for the readers, to help them understand the information that is being communicated. Looking nice is just a part of making the reading experience more enjoyable. It's art applied to practical use, rather than just an opportunity for showing off how artsy-fartsy the creator is.

The fact Bateman is so dilusional nobody even knows what he does is real or not throughout the movie. This part is a proof that he is indeed messed up for seeing and making up things in his head and probably reacting it killing poeple or maybe not

Just had this random thought, why no clown logos? I guess stand-up wants to separate itself from clowning, which is fair enough; but it's interesting that clown didn't come up in your research!

I really miss clip art, how I used it all the time in PowerPoint presentations for school. I despise the corporate art style that replaced it, because it doesn't feel as timeless and feels soulless, cynical, and devoid of personality. It's seen as basically a symbol of corporatism, when clip art felt more universal.
